This year I had the pleasure of opening sold-out two shows for one of my favorite stand-up comedians, Shane Mauss (in whose award-winning documentary Psychonautics I both have a music credit and appear as an interviewee, and with whom I have exchanged innumerable guest spots on each other's podcasts).
Both shows took place in one night at George R. R. Martin's wonderful small art-house theater, The Jean Cocteau Cinema, here in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I spent the whole week prior building an updated and expanded new live rig and getting too worked up about submitting to NPR's 2023 Tiny Desk Concert Contest...which ultimately proved to be a good thing.
This show combines my science-inspired folk songs, cyberdelic A/B improv takes, and psychoactive concert banter into a magic stew that even after twenty years I cannot reproduce at home in-studio. There's only one way to create a show like this, and that's in front of an engaged live audience. Enjoy!
